All too often I hope for something bigger than myself, and I wonder if I’m being selfish. Am I asking for too much? I often question those desires after seeing that I have so much to be thankful for, but what’s the harm in dreaming??
The desires that are placed inside of us are there for God knows why, but they are there. These are the things that shape you. They’re what propel you to move forward. Sometimes, they are the driving force that pushes you to wake up in the morning. So why be afraid of something that is so intrinsically you?
What’s the worst that can happen? Sure you can fall for a dream, we all do it, but eventually you’ll wake up, and when you do, what’s the first thing on your mind? Is it sadness that you’re thrust back into reality? Curiosity as to how much further the vision can go? Or are you inspired and filled with the insatiable urge to get exactly what you’d hoped for? When I dream, I tend to overshoot the moon, dart around the stars, and land somewhere in another galaxy–it’s a distant reality that only makes sense in my head. The thought alone can be a bit overwhelming. After all, who am I to dream of being a household name, an award winning writer, a world-renowned author? Yet, if I feed into it–just a teensy bit–what would happen? What if I aimed for that galaxy? Would I bump the stars? Skid across the moon? Touch the sky? Would any of that be so bad? We all fear falling short of the goal, but the worst of it all would be remaining grounded simply because we’re too afraid to try.
Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprint of your ultimate achievements Napoleon Hill
So what can be done? Through it all I try to remember that the desires in my heart are uniquely mine, and they are there for a reason. Whenever I’m feeling low, defeated, and discouraged, I repeat this little mantra in my head: ‘it is okay to have these dreams…’, because it truly is. As Napoleon Hill once said, “Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprint of your ultimate achievements.” You can’t get far without a plan, and you can’t draft a plan without a dream. So dream big, as big as your imagination will take you, and never doubt the possibility of what could come true.
